The California Wingless Spec Sprints class starts it's 10th
season in 2008. It was August of 1998 that Don Martin & Don
O'keefe sat in a pizza parlor in Baypoint and wrote the original
rules. And on opening night 12 cars showed up and the rest is
history.
Here's a link to some of the WSS 1999-2000 info. This last
October Chico had almost 70 WSS cars for the year end Wingless
Spec Nationals.
It is official, the five days are up, myself (Jacob Spath),
Tony Bascacci,
and Dan Ochs have joined together to continue racing in Orland.
Orland will
continue to be a Sat. night race venue running primarily stock
car classes
and spec sprints. Plans to run a few wing sprint shows will be
made around
SDS's race schedule and the proper evaluation of the capacity of
the race
surface. Race schedule, classes, rules and changes will be
released the
middle of next week, but there are no tenative rule changes
forseen so
continue to build your cars. Immediate plans for the race track
include an
18 race schedule begining in late April or early May due to the
needed
expansion of the track surface and instalation of track lights.
Big emphasis on weekly pre race tech will be made. A pair of
track
officials will visit your pit weekly to check both technical
guidlines and
most importantly driver safety, SFI tags, neck restraints,
suits, seat
installation, etc.
Our group is comprised of four individuals, what we hope to
achive by doing
this is to create a well rounded promotion group that can
adequetly address
the needs of the race track and the race teams that choose to
partake in
our events. I'm sure I skipped something so if there are are any
questions, concerns or
help that can be provided, please feel free to contact me after
7 pm until
Monday at 530-781-3596 because I am at Promotors workshops in
Daytona, FL
and the Winter Nationals.
Hope for a positive season!
